Sarah studied on the MPhil in Playwriting Studies at Birmingham University and was recently selected as one of their twenty most distinguished graduates. She has been commissioned to write a short play for their 20/20 project, which will be performed in Birmingham in March 2010 as part of the celebrations of the twentieth anniversary of the course. Her play “S27” won the 2007 Protect the Human Playwriting Competition and was also shortlisted for The King’s Cross Award. The play was produced at the Finborough in June 2009 and received four star reviews from The Guardian and Time Out amongst others. The production was selected as a Time Out Critic’s Choice. “S-27” will have its Australian premiere at the Griffin Theatre in Sydney in March 2010. Other plays include “WAITING FOR ROMEO” (Pleasance Islington 2009; Edinburgh Festival 2006) and “OPEN GROUND” (Hampstead Start Night 2004; Theatro Technis 2005). Short plays include: “REMAINS” (Theatre 503 2009), “VIABLE ALTERNATIVES” (Theatre 503 2008) and “GIFT” (Kings Head 2008).
Sarah reads for Soho Theatre and Theatre 503. She has worked as a dramaturg for the Brighton Festival. She is currently researching and writing a book on alternative dramaturgical approaches to new writing in contemporary British theatre.
Sarah comes from an Anglo-Polish background and has recently been working with the Bush Theatre on their Baltic and Eastern European outreach programme. Her play “WAITING FOR ROMEO” has been translated into Polish and will have a rehearsed reading in Gdansk during 2010.
Sarah originally trained as an actress at Drama Centre and has worked extensively in theatre and television.
