Born in South Africa, he won a Diane Thomas Screenwriting Award in Los Angeles for his first original screenplay, “A REASONABLE MAN”. In 1997 he wrote and directed short film “THE STOREKEEPER” which won best short film at Nashville and Melbourne film festivals, Silver at Chicago and Bronze at Houston. In 1999 he wrote and directed his first feature “A REASONABLE MAN” which screened in official competition at Edinburgh, Montreal and Chicago and won awards at Karlovy Vary, Flagstaff and San Jose. Gavin was also named one of ‘Ten Directors to Watch’ by Variety magazine at Sundance 2000. He directed the Polish film “IN DESERT & WILDERNESS” which was the highest grossing film in Poland for 2001. His third feature film, TSOTSI (2005) has won 7 international festival awards including both the Michael Powell Award and the Standard Life Audience Award at Edinburgh Int Film Festival 2005 and the People’s Choice award at Toronto Film Festival and was nominated for a Golden Globe, 2 BAFTA’s and won Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards 2006. RENDITION (Anonymous Content)starring Reese Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhaal and Meryl Streep was released 2008 and WOLVERINE (Fox) with Hugh Jackman in 2009. Gavin has just completed a tv pilot called TOUGH TRADE. He is represented in Los Angeles by Anonymous Content and William Morris Agency.
