JONATHAN ROMNEY is a film critic, screenwriter and director. He has written and directed two short films – A SOCIAL CALL (2002, shown at the New York, London, Edinburgh and Rotterdam Film Festivals) and MAN GOES TO THE DOCTOR (2001, in the Film Four/Dazed and Confused, Stop For A Minute series ). He also wrote short film ONE EYED JACQUES, directed by Richard Clark (2001). His first full length feature MOOD MUSIC is under option to Tall Stories and he is writing the adaptation of THE MAN WHO TURNED INTO HIMSELF by David Ambrose for Clerkenwell Films. Jonathan will also write the adaptation of THE MAN WHO WAS THURSDAY by GK Chesterton in collaboration with maverick film-maker Raoul Ruiz.
Jonathan is the film critic of the Independent on Sunday, and also writes for Sight & Sound, Modern Painters, Film Comment and others. His books on film are: Atom Egoyan (bfi), Short Orders: Film Writing (Serpents Tail) and Celluloid Jukebox (ed. with Adrian Wootton, bfi). He was decorated by the French government, Chevalier Dans LOrdre Des Arts and Des Lettres at the start of 2007.
