Plays for the stage include: "THE MEMORY OF WATER" (1996) produced at Hampstead Theatre, directed by Terry Johnson also West End winning an Olivier Award and MTC New York; "AN EXPERIMENT WITH AN AIR PUMP" (1997) won the Peggy Ramsay Award and was produced at the Royal Exchange, Manchester and Hampstead Theatre;“FIVE KINDS OF SILENCE” Hammersmith Lyric (2000); ANCIENT LIGHTS Hampstead Theatre (2000); MAPPA MUNDI, Nat. Theatre (2002); “ENLIGHTENMENT” Abbey Theatre, Dublin (2005). Shelagh won the prestigious Sloan Commission Award in New York in 2003. In 2007 "THE LONG ROAD" played for two sell-out runs at Soho Theatre. “BEFORE YOU GO” her feature adaptation of ‘The Memory of Water’ was filmed in 2001, directed by Lewis Gilbert and starring Julie Walters. Recent theatre commissions include NORTHERN ODYSSEY scheduled for production in 2010 at Live Theatre, WASTED for Hampstead Theatre and a new play for Atlantic Theatre in US. Recent tv commissions include "NOT A LOVE STORY" a 90 min single for Headline/C4, LIFES A DREAM for Headline/BBC and DRAGON LADIES for Lime Pictures. Shelagh also wrote the production draft of the BBC4 single ENID for Carnival Productions and an episode of Julian Fellowes ITV series DOWNTON ABBEY. Shelagh is also a prolific writer of radio drama, most recently broadcast a five-part series called HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL? She is represented in the USA by The Gersh Agency for both her film and theatre work.
