Phil is a passionate and vocal advocate for TV and the arts. After going viral on Twitter in 2024, he has spoken on TODAY, PM, TIMES RADIO, numerous podcasts and has given keynote speeches calling for positive systemic change in a time of crisis.

Phil’s play DEEP CUT, commissioned by Sherman Cymru, was a sell-out hit at Edinburgh in 2008 winning AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL, FRINGE FIRST and HERALD ANGEL awards. Mark Lawson said “Never before have I been so moved, or enraged, by a play…”; the play had a key role in securing the re-opening of the inquest into the death of Private Cheryl James at the Deepcut barracks in Surrey. Phil adapted the play for Radio 4 winning the NEW YORK FESTIVAL BRONZE AWARD for Best Drama. Phil developed the story first as a feature script for Revolution Films and latterly as a ltd series for Me + You Productions with Michael Sheen attached.

In 2005 Phil starred in a one-man show HITTING FUNNY (produced by Volcano Theatre), which he also wrote, which toured the UK and played the Edinburgh Fringe. He was a writer on attachment at Soho Theatre in 2002 where his first play MR NOBODY premiered in June 2003. Phil graduated as an actor from RADA in 1992.

Phil is also an experienced facilitator and retreat guide, being co-director with his partner of Emergence, an arts and sustainability retreat centre at their home in mid-Wales.
